About the Benton Gun Club
The Benton Gun Club, Inc. is a private, members only, member owned non-profit organization.
Match fees are typically $5.00 or $10.00 and all matches are open to the public.  Our facilities
have  expanded from 18 to 112 acres through the purchase of land.  There are 12 shooting
disciplines with separate competitive matches.

Whether you are an average plinker or a hard core competitive shooter you will find that our range
suits all of your needs. All of our matches are open to the public so you do not need to be a
member to see and shoot on our range but we would love to have you join.

Hope to see you at the range. Until then please shoot safely and help our sport grow and ask a
friend to come along.

Shooting Matches

Rifle: CMP Rimfire Sporter (New!)
This competition allows individuals to compete with inexpensive rifles in a match that emphasizes
fun and good sportsmanship.  Any safe rimfire rifle with any type of action may be used. Rifles must
have standard sporter type stocks, weight at 7.5 pounds or less, have a trigger pull of 3 pounds or
more and be equipped with a scope (6X max) or peep sights.  The scope and receiver sighted guns
shoot in one class and rifles with open sights shoot in another.  Slings are allowed.  Rifles must be
chambered for the .22 long rifle rimfire cartridges.  Firing is done at 50 and 25 yards, from three
positions: prone, sitting (or kneeling), and standing. There are six stages, 60 shots total, including
rapid (5 shots in 25 seconds) and slow (10 shots in 10 minutes).  *Currently to get things started
and not stifle participation, we are waiving the weight limit, trigger pull weight limit, and the scope
power limit (however for a variable power scopes, they must be set on the lowest power or 6x
whichever is higher). For more information see

shooting the silhouette off the rail.

Pistol: International Defensive Pistol Association
The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is the governing body of a shooting sport that
simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. It was founded in 1996 as a response to
the desires of shooters worldwide. The organization now boasts membership of more than 11,000,
including members in 19 foreign countries. One of the unique facets of this sport is that it is geared
toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced
shooter. The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used
competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be
competitive. The firearms are grouped into five (5) divisions: 1) Custom Defensive Pistol (.45ACP
semi-automatics only); 2) Enhanced Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber semi-automatics);
3) Stock Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber double action, double action only, or safe
action semi-automatics); 4) Enhanced Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action
revolvers); and 5) Stock Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers). Equipment
for delineations in the revolver divisions. Shooters are then classed by like-skill levels with
progression from Novice (NV); to Marksman (MM); to Sharpshooter (SS); to Expert (EX); and,
finally, to Master (MA).
