Concealed Carry Class Scheduled The club will hold its next NRA concealed carry license class for all club members and/or their spouses on October 4, 5 and 6 (6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) with handgun qualification on Saturday October 8 at the range. The cost is $40.00. (This fee is non-refundable unless the class is canceled.) The state fee for the license, background check and FBI fingerprint check is $144.00. The license is good for four years. Mail your $40.00 check (made out to the Benton Gun Club, Inc.) to P.O. Box 139, Benton, AR 72018-0139. Your check will not be deposited until the class is held. Class size is limited to 12 people and openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Safety Re-Orientations Required A motion was made and passed to have all members go through the safety orientation again. The range has changed a lot in the years since the orientation sessions were begun, and it was felt that everyone could use a refresher. The re-orientation will be required for all members who were in the club as of May, 2005. (Anyone who joined after that has already received an updated version of the orientation.) Members will have until the end of 2006 to retake it. To make arrangements for retaking the safety orientation, contact James Squires at 847-2147. And since we have so many members, James would really appreciate it if you could help him out. Please give him a call if you can be of assistance.
Range and Match News There will be a rimfire speed steel challenge match on Saturday, August 20, at 8:00 a.m. (Apologies to those getting this newsletter by mail, but this will be old news by the time you read about it.) The match will be held on range five. The entry fee will be $5.00. The July motion allocating up to $3,000.00 for the purpose of extending the walls on range five (the IDPA range) was ratified by the membership at the August club meeting. As it turns out, the final cost is expected to be well below that estimate. The final cost should be known by the time the September club meeting rolls around. A new motion was made at the August meeting that would allow local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to use our range for training purposes. The motion was passed, subject to approval by our insurance company. The terms of the arrangement will require that any agency wishing to use our range will have to give us 60 days notice.
